Accepting Change Prepares Us for Self-improvement

It’s a new month and a new start! New possibilities are around the corner. Opening our minds to great possibilities by accepting that we need to CHANGE for the better is one of the hardest to do. Yet, for self-improvement, we depend on it.

When was the last time you consciously made the effort to make a change in yourself? Accepting change is tough, especially when we think we’ve got it as good as it gets.

We’re not talking about a brand new wardrobe or a new hairstyle.  We’re talking about a REAL CHANGE that leads you to become a better person. After all, aren’t we supposed to live life to improve ourselves and others and the earth? And isn’t there a saying that goes like:  Leave this earth better than what it was, and better than how you began?

Accepting Change… for what purpose?

We certainly can agree that Change isn’t easy. Given this year of 2020 was certainly not what we expected and that came as a surprise– it really shoved us into change–without a choice. Yet as life happens, we learn to adapt only through the mere acceptance of the change. Have we become any wiser or better for it? Truly 2020 has brought out the worst and the best of us. Some may argue against having thrust into 2020 Quarantine has made many things worse. Yet still many believe that deep down in our personal lives, we have found that 2020 has indeed challenged us to be better.

However, at every step in life, change is inevitable. So now it is up to us whether we choose to accept, adapt or struggle with the change that takes place. — from the article of How to Accept Change

When we see we need a change, and when there becomes the opportunity to finally accept it, we learn to see ourselves from a different perspective. We discover our weaknesses and our strengths. And in discovering ourselves, our weaknesses, or shortcomings at the same time as discovering together our strengths and abilities, that’s when the ‘magic happens’. It’s when we step out of our comfort zone and expanded ourselves into the world.

Accepting Change = Growth Mindset

What is a Growth Mindset? Some of you may have read the book Mindset, The New Psychology to Success, by Dr. Carol Dweck.

She describes a growth mindset as having the outlook for solutions, thrives on challenge, and sees failure as a “heartening springboard for growth”. It sets up an opportunity to stretch out our abilities, and even develop new ones.

When we cultivate a mindset for growth, we certainly achieve more than we expected of ourselves. It seems that even just the effort of trying to achieve is better than the success itself.

Open Your Door To Change

Accepting Change for Self-Improvement

When it comes to becoming a better person, and for any self-improvement to occur, we naturally need to accept the challenge to change.

Here are 3 tips to cultivate acceptance of change:

  1. Accept it: Change is part of Life. Accepting this very fact is actually what keeps us open-minded. It is part of life, in all aspects. Truly, there cannot be LIFE, without the change. The minuscule atom changes and shifts with others to create matter. Even our cells change, elements of the earth change to create. We change and grow from infant to adult– and that’s Life, right there!
  2. Practice Gratitude: There is always something good.  There are bad days and good days. But even on the bad days, there is always something good. Looking for the bright side of things gives us hope, and we tend to see the bigger picture, where we see both good and bad. Keeping a gratitude journal can really help us see the good in our days, in ourselves, and in others.
  3. Think beyond the box: The change expands your thinking. When something awful happens, a change we don’t like yet is already present in our lives, we either stay frozen or move on. When we decide to move on, that decision itself has expanded our thinking– there are possibilities out there. When we expand our thinking, from seeing possibilities and from seeking solutions, we grow into a more resilient person. We learn new skills, new habits, and even discover new passions.

Imagine If

Imagine if you cultivate a mindset for growth, what kind of person would you be? Our very self-improvement relies on this mindset. Would you get to achieve things more efficiently and effectively by having a growth mindset? Absolutely! Even our own Self-Care intentions would not be possible without the idea that we need to improve, change, and be better. And we honestly want to be better persons for our family, for others and for ourselves, right? Accepting change is tough, but it’s the bitter ‘medicine’ that we need to take for our own transformation into a better person.
