Have you ever planned for a vacation, a trip at least 3-days or more? One that took you to your chosen dream destination? Was it a trip that needed at least 2-3 modes of transportation to get to? Or had more than 8 hours to get there?
We are sure you have. And most likely took weeks in advance, maybe even months to prepare and plan for it.
We all have a vacation or get-away place we want to go to; a goal to work towards as a form of reward to ourselves and family. It’s a time away from our ‘ordinary, regular’ life and just enjoy with our loved ones. A beautiful goal, isn’t it?
Yet every beautiful destination takes planning. We plan for our vacation goals because we want the trip and time spent to be the best time ever. There is the innate belief that we have one life to live, (maybe) just one time to enjoy the trip, so make it the best plan.
We plan for our vacation goals, why don’t we plan for our health goals?
In that same light, shouldn’t there be this innate belief that we have one life to live, and maybe just one time to enjoy it, so why not create the “best ME” I can have to live life?
Good question don’t you think? Here’s another: Have you at least thought about it and written down your health goals? What’s more, can you tell the difference from a Health Goal vs a Fitness Goal?
Health Goals aren’t the same as Fitness Goals. Goals like these deal with overall wellness and normally pertain to what doctors have been advising: Better Lifestyle habits. They mainly cover lowering cholesterol levels, lowering blood pressure, being migraine-free, attaining balanced hormones, eating healthier, getting 8hrs of quality sleep, etc.
Fitness Goals are focused on the ability of your physiology. They focus on exercise, strength, power, endurance, flexibility, mobility of your body. Goals like these also can be specified as completing a 10km run or able to do a headstand or handstand in yoga, to as simple as losing 2inches off the waist (which isn’t as easy to do!)
Other Tips to Reaching your goals
- Be persistent. Any action becomes a habit with consistency and persistence. It takes more than 21 days to build that. So don’t give up.
- Be easy on yourself. It’s hard enough to do something new and we often feel like a failure if we don’t get it right the first time. You’re maybe learning something you’ve never done before, and it will take time and practice. Don’t lose hope.
- You are not alone. Seek the support you need to be able to keep you focused. A wellness coach, your best buddy, your spouse, or even a sibling or child can help cheer you on. You’ve got to let them know what you’re plan is for them to understand where you’re coming from, for them to be effective.
- Change one ‘bad’ habit at a time. Write down the ‘good’ habit or possible solution you could replace with that ‘bad’ habit, and go with that. Trying to change everything all at once may not be the best way for you. Feeling overwhelmed is one of the most discouraging reasons why we fail.
- Focus on the process. It’s great to have a goal, but it’s the process that gets you there. It’s the little steps that matter. When you master the ‘baby steps’, you’ll be reaching your goal much faster.
- Keep a diary or journal. Although writing a journal may be tedious for many, it actually becomes a ‘record book’ that becomes helpful as many times we become more mindful as we jot things down. Taking notes of what you feel, what you ate, what exercise you did, how long you slept, etc., will be your ‘database’ for your performance.
Imagine if
We can get to sitting down and writing out our health and fitness plan for just a week. Maybe even move up to planning for 1 month. Imagine if you could do this and actually achieve it, week by week, month by month, year by year. What kind of person do you think you would become? We here in FYFG believe you’ve got FIERCE Goals to achieve. Nothing can stop a person with a mindset for growth and possibility! Imagine a plan for the best vacation yet–get the timing right, transportation schedules on the dot, perfect restaurant reservations, tours and tour guides schedule, just the right clothes and luggage prepped, adequate finances–and the best part, you are at the peak of health. Won’t that be the best time ever?
